In this article Morris stresses the argument presented by the new apparel of some NBA players. The argument he is presenting to the audience, is that the stereotypical way a group of people dress or act can be altered. He uses the Fresh Prince of Bel Air as an example of what these players are trying to do. In the show Will tries to get Carlton to act more like the black males of that time. When it is actually Carlton who influences Will to do better in school.
Now it is the NBA players who are trying to cause a change. They are showing that the way one dresses does not determine who they are. This can be clearly seen in the article when it talks about the NBA relaxing its dress code. Here it talks about how players change the way they dress to "see what works." What they want to see working, is if their appearance catches on with the general population. The population that these players are trying to reach out to is young kids.
I agree with what these players are doing because they are the ones that kids now look up to. If it were teachers who were trying to send this message to the kids, the result would be something completely different. This change is not to get kids to dress like them, but instead for kids to be themselves without having to worry about what others think about them.
